DEVIL = EVIL / GOD = GOOD

According to the author lives of individual, just as in society at large, the profoundest changes take place within a very reduced time frame. When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment there is no point in pretending. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.

The book begins with the Author’s Note in which he has given examples of the good & evil from various Persian mythology & The Bible. The above paragraph is a somewhat extract of Author’s Note.

The story is about a battle between The good & The evil. Only one of them can triumph in the end. But who? The story is just about that. In one eventful week the Devil and the Good confront each other, with each trying to superimpose on other. But then will the good with its virtues be victorious or will it be the Devil with his devilish powers that will triumph. To convey this message the author has come up with yet another fascinating story.

The story is about a village named Viscos which has only 281 inhabitants and is controlled by a meagre half dozen individuals. The oldest among them is Berta who has extraordinary powers to communicate with spirits. The village considers her a witch. The youngest woman is Miss Chantal Prym who works in bar and is searching ways to make herself happy.

The story is about a stranger named Carlos who has all the riches in the world. But in some unavoided tragedy he looses his entire family. From that day The Devil takes over him & he is persecuted by the belief that human beings are essentially evil. But however his good side does not let him fully believe this. Hence to get the answers to his questions he arrives in Viscos carrying 11 gold bars.

The village Viscos too has had its own history of a battle of Good vs. Evil. The stranger gets Miss Prym on his side & shows her the 11 gold bars that he hides in the forest. He tells her that he is ready to give this bars to the village if in the next one week they commit a murder and he gives Miss Prym the responsibility to convey the message in to the village.

However Miss Prym’s angel forbids her from doing this. But then her devil makes her do it. In this struggle she conveys the message to the village . The village now becomes an accomplice to this sophisticated plot, which will mark their lives forever.

Will they choose The Good or The Devil? Will they commit a murder? If Yes, Who is the chosen victim? In one eventful week, each of them face questions of life, death and power and each of them have to choose their own path. So who wins the battle in the end? Does anyone has to sacrifice his life for money? Does Carlos gets his answers? Will the good triumph over the evil?

And.......... The quotes I would like you all to read!

"Anyone who loves in the expectation of being loved in return is wasting their time."

"There are two kinds of idiots - those who don't take action because they have received a threat, and those who think they are taking action because they have issued a threat."

"She had just realized there were two things that prevent us from achieving our dreams: believing them to be impossible or seeing those dreams made possible by some sudden turn of the wheel of fortune, when you least expected it. For at that moment, all our fears suddenly surface: the fear of setting off along a road heading who knows where, the fear of a life full of new challenges, the fear of losing forever everything that is familiar."

"People want to change everything and, at the same time, want it all to remain the same."

"Playing the part of a charitable soul was only for those who were afraid of taking a stand in life. It is always far easier to have faith in your own goodness than to confront others and fight for your rights. It is always easier to hear an insult and not retaliate than have the courage to fight back against someone stronger than yourself; we can always say we're not hurt by the stones others throw at us, and it's only at night - when we're alone and our wife or our husband or our school friend is asleep - that we can silently grieve over our own cowardice."

"Even God has a hell: his love of mankind."

"A lot of people are critical of arms manufacturers, but they will continue to exist until there's not a single weapon left on the face of the earth. Because as long as one weapon remains, there will always have to be another, to preserve the fragile balance."

"It isn't the desire to abide by the law that makes everyone behave as society requires, but the fear of punishment. Each one of us carries a gallows inside us."

"She was glad to have been the first to reveal to those people the evil hidden in the depths of their false, ingenuous souls. They were all dreaming of the chance to commit a murder - only dreaming, mind you, because they would never actually do anything. They would spend the rest of their lives asleep, endlessly telling themselves how noble they were, how incapable of committing an injustice, ready to defend the village's dignity at whatever cost, yet aware that terror alone had prevented them from killing an innocent. They would congratulate themselves every morning on keeping their integrity, and blame themselves each night for that missed opportunity."

"Since we can never see the enemy - because if we take this tale to its logical conclusion, our real enemy is God for putting us through everything we've suffered - we vent our frustrations on everything around us. It's a desire for vengeance that can never be satisfied, because it's directed against life itself."

"None is good, says the Lord. No one. We should stop pretending to a goodness that offends God and accept our faults: if one day we have to accept a wager with the Devil, let us remember that our Father who is in Heaven did exactly the same in order to save the soul of His servant Job."

"So you see, Good and Evil have the same face; it all depends on when they cross the path of each individual human being."

One thought I had is GOD is one letter short of GOOD and DEVIL is one letter short of EVIL.
